Teachable Moments will offer preschool activities such as learning the alphabet, shapes, colors, numbers; we also work on name recognition. It is our responsibility to give your child a certified, qualified, and energized lead teacher who believes in investing in children.
As the executive director, it is my goal to offer your family the quality childcare experience that you deserve. Please feel free to openly discuss any problems or concerns you may have at any time with your assigned director. An open and honest relationship is the key to a happy childcare experience for everyone involved.

Child Drop-Off /Pick-Up/Attendance Policy
Teachable Moments assumes full responsibility for your child once they are dropped off and signed in until they are signed out. Children should arrive at daycare with clean clothes (not pajamas), diapers, hair, face & hands, and ready for the day. When dropping off or picking up children, remember to sign them in or out in the foyer and put their belongings away in their cubby. Every child must be signed in and out daily by a designated adult. The complete first and last name must be signed, initials are not accepted. Please record accurate times. Also, we cannot release your child to anyone NOT listed on the enrollment form without prior approval from you. You must let us know if someone other than you will be picking them up, and they need to have a PICTURE ID with them. Children must arrive for care by 9 AM to start their daily learning experience. Children will not be accepted for care after 9 AM without a doctor’s note.
Children should be escorted to their classroom by an adult and not be dropped off in the parking lot or outside the facility. Also, children will only be released to adults for pick-up. To prevent the spread of germs, we do not allow children to visit inside of their siblings’ classrooms during pick-up or drop-off.
Children must be picked up within the time agreed on in their contract for care. If we have not been in contact with a parent or guardian and the child has not been picked up within 1 hour, we are obligated to inform the Division of Family and Children Services and the appropriate local authorities. Any family with more than three late pick-ups within 30 days will be subject to termination.
Sick Child Policy
Children will not be allowed to attend or remain for care if they have a fever of 101 degrees or higher plus another symptom including but not limited to a rash, diarrhea, etc. Parents will be notified by the end of the day when children express discomforts that do not require medical attention. When children need medical attention or are severely uncomfortable parents will be called immediately.
Children with a contagious illness will not be allowed in daycare until they are properly medicated. A child must be fever free without the use of medicine 24 hours before returning to the daycare. Teachable Moments will exclude any child who exhibits any of the following:
-
Fever of 100 degrees or higher. (Needs to be fever free for 24 hours) WITHOUT THE USE OF A FEVER REDUCING MEDICINE accompanied by one of the following:

Nap Time
Children under the age of five years old are required to take a nap. We do not allow outside blankets in. For your child’s comfort, we will provide them with an age-appropriate cot, a bottom sheet, and a blanket that will be laundered weekly or more often if soiled.
Emergency Plan
We have a detailed copy of the emergency plan posted in the foyer. In case of an emergency, we will congregate at 1409 Hogansville Rd and call parents immediately.
Discipline and Guidance Termination Procedure
Whenever your child gets in trouble at school, we will provide you with a copy of a behavior report. I believe that keeping you informed on your child’s behavior is the best way to resolve issues before they become problems. We believe discipline should be used to teach a child. Rules are explained frequently so that everyone knows the guidelines. Once a child understands the rules and obeys them, the following techniques are used and as a last resort. A conference will be held with the parents. If problems cannot be resolved, arrangements will have to be made for the child’s care. Sometimes it is determined that we, the center/ and the child, are not a good fit for each other, for many reasons. We are a learning center. We teach from an age-appropriate curriculum that is GELDS based. If your child can’t benefit from this type of setting, we will terminate care with one week’s notice.
We will not allow excessively aggressive children, or children who are unable to accept adult guidance, to remain in our facility for care, as we are not certified or equipped to handle them in a manner that is beneficial to learning.
If parents/guardians and directors can’t come to a resolution to solve the aggression, we will terminate the childcare agreement.

POSITIVE GUIDANCE TECHNIQUES
1. Ignoring: Some negative behavior is produced by a child to get attention. It can be stopped when it does not get the attention desired. We will use this technique unless a safety issue is involved.
2. Redirection: We offer alternatives to children engaged in undesirable behavior by presenting a different toy or activity.
3. Verbal Intervention: We explain to the child inappropriate behavior and show him/her the appropriate way to handle the situation with words.
4. Logical Consequences: We help the child understand the logical consequence of his/her actions by removing the object or activity in which the child is engaged.
5. Take a Break: The child is separated from the group to allow him/her to relax and calm down, and to help him/her not to be influenced by peers. The child will have access to limited activities and be closely monitored. The child may return to the group as soon as the negative behavior stops or is significantly reduced. If Take a Break occurs constantly or is not working you will be asked to come and pick up your child.

Giving positive verbal rewards encourages acceptable behavior. This reinforces a child’s good feeling about his/her behavior and serves as an example to the children to act in such a way as to receive praise. Asking a child to stop and think about their behavior enables the child to work at self-control
Children will be allowed to take a break for one minute per age for years, to do something calming in a safe place. Punishment that is humiliating or frightening to a child, such as hitting, spanking, shaking, verbal or sexual abuse, withholding or forcing food or punishments for lapses in toilet training and other forms of physical punishment are PROHIBITED. Children with behavior issues that compromise the safety of others will be permently removed from the program.
MEDICATIONS
We are a non-medicating facility. We encourage you to give the medicine before or after school, as we will not administer any medicine, other than topical meds to children. Some meds such as rescue, and preventative meds may be an exception. If nebulizers are required by a physician, parents must complete a medication authorization form each week that it is required. Parents must bring machines and tubes for use.
Nonprescription topical medications may include but are not limited to:
-
Antihistamines,
-
non-aspirin fever reducing/pain reliever
-
Decongestants
-
Anti-itching ointment or lotions
-
Diaper rash ointments or lotions
-
Sunscreen
-
Cough syrup
-
Teething gels
-
Insect repellant
These must be sent in original containers. If any of them are taken differently than indicated on the labels or for more than 5 days, we will need a note from the physician. If a child is on long-term meds, or as needed medications like asthma inhalers, a note from your doctor will be required to put in our files. Only asthma type medications can be kept here to be used when needed.
CONFIDENTIALLITY
Children's information will be kept confidential and will only be released to authorized persons such as but not limited to: State licensing, police department, Health and Social services, and my backup provider.

DAILY ACTIVITIES
Our day will consist of one or more of the following:
Use and development of language skills, use of large and small muscles, use of materials that encourage creativity and imaginary play, daily indoor and outdoor activities depending on the weather, active and quiet play, individual and group activities. This will help in learning new ideas and skills, give exposure to a variety of cultures, and protect children from excess fatigue and over stimulation. Bright from the Start requires that all children go outside daily for one hour and thirty minutes. If your child cannot go outside for a medical reason, I certainly understand that. You will be required to bring a notice from your child’s doctor for his/her files. Without a signed medical excuse, we are required to take children outside. Bright from the Start require infants who are woken to have supervised tummy time on the floor. Clean baby blankets will be provided each time infants are placed on the floor.
Dress Code
Play is learning for life. Almost everything that children learn during their first six years is learned through play, and they work very hard at it! From the time they are born, without anyone telling them how, children stretch, pull, push, and move from place to place. It is our policy that children wear clothes that are comfortable and that will allow them to play freely.
Shoes must have closed heels and toes. Play develops children’s skills, teach them to relate to their peers, and develop their own personality. Children have a profound need to play, climb, and run, use their Imagination, test themselves and challenge others, and above all to enjoy themselves. This facility does not carry sufficient liability insurance to cover your child in case of an injury. Please follow the dress code to minimize accidents. Children will not be allowed to wear a pacifier attached to their clothing, nor around their neck. Children will not be permitted to wear necklaces.
NUTRITION
Food for the children in daycare is more than just balanced meals and nutritious snacks; it is a vital part of each day. This is a great time for learning manners, socializing with other children, and talking about the day. Each meal served will meet 1/3 of the nutritional requirements, and snacks will include 2 items from the 4 food groups. We participate in the CACFP food program. Weekly menus are posted in the foyer. We serve at a minimum of two meals and one snack a day. Many children have food allergies to different things. A child can have an allergic reaction from just being in the presence of food that he is allergic to; therefore, outside food is not allowed. If your child has any food allergies, PLEASE make sure to put this on their enrollment form. A doctor’s note must be signed and kept on file when a child needs a special milk or milk substitute. Special milk and substitutes must be provided by the parents.

EATING SCHEDULE
Breakfast is served through 8:30 AM
Lunch is served from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
PM snacks are served from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM
Supper is served to school age children at 5:00 PM
Infants are diapered and fed on demand, and in accordance with the infant feeding plan that is filled out by parents. All bottles must be made at home and brought to school. It is a violation of the department of early learning and care, Ga Bright from the Start for childcare providers to prepare bottles for children. Bottles must be properly capped.
NAPPING/REST TIME
It is required that all children under the age of 5 and in care for more than 4 hours have a rest time. We will provide children over the age of 1 with a cot and covers for naps; children under the age of 1 will be assigned a crib. Teachable Moments provides top and bottom covers; therefore, we are not responsible for personal blankets that get taken by other children or get lost in the wash cycle. Children that are not sleeping after 1 hour of rest, can get up to have quiet play such as books, puzzles, coloring, etc. If your child falls asleep, they will be allowed to sleep for the entire nap time.
In order to reduce the risk of SIDS the following rules will be applied
-
All infants under one year of age will be placed on their backs to sleep.
-
NOTHING (bibs, stuffed animals, blankets, etc.) will be allowed in the crib with the baby except a pacifier.
-
When an infant can roll over from back to belly, they will be put down on their backs but will be allowed to adapt whatever sleep position they prefer.
-
If you have any questions about this or need further information, please call the SIDS alliance at 1-800-221-SIDS or Back to sleep campaign at 1-800-505-CRIB.
INFLUENCE OF DRUGS/ALCOHOL
If you or any other person appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of pick-up, you will be asked to have someone come and get you and your child. If you refuse a ride and leave with your child, we will notify the police department and child protection services with all the information required. No prohibited substances are allowed on the premises or in any vehicle used to transport children during operating hours.
TERMINATION
Teachable Moments reserve the right to termination of care agreement. Here are some of the most common reasons for terminating care agreements:
-
Failure to pay fees on time
-
Failure to comply with policies
-
Lack of parental co-operation, communication, or respect for business.
-
3 consecutive days of uninformed absences (on the third day without any notification, we will assume that you will not return)

Children With Special Needs
Parents should notify us of any special needs during registration. We will accept children with special needs when we can handle the special need sufficiently. Enrollment acceptance will be determined on a case-by-case basis depending on the child's needs and current staffing qualifications. If your child is accepted for care in a general care room but their needs require them to be in a special care room, they will lose their spot if the special room is already filled. We will not accept or allow children to remain for care if they are aggressive in behavior.
Curriculum
Learning comes to life through fun and play. These are words that structure our curriculum. Children will enjoy age-appropriate activities that are based on Ga. Early Learning Standards. Pre-schoolers use the Creative Curriculum to learn fun and exciting new things. Children enjoy outside time daily, and an interactive circle time in the morning. We plan many exciting things throughout the year that will keep your child eager to learn as they grow and develop.

Supplied By The Parents
Parents are responsible for providing their child’s daily care items, including breast milk, formula, bottles, pacifiers, and weather-appropriate clothing to be kept in the child’s cubby. Parents are also required to provide wipes on a monthly basis, which should be turned in directly to the administration. A sign-in sheet will be used to track these monthly wipe contributions.
Diaper Policy
Parents are responsible for supplying diapers for their child each day. Families may choose to bring diapers daily, weekly, or in bulk monthly, depending on their preference. Staff will communicate with parents if a child’s diaper supply is running low or has run out, so that additional diapers can be provided in a timely manner. If a child runs out of diapers during the day, the daycare will temporarily supply them at a cost of $1 per diaper. This policy helps us partner with parents to ensure children’s comfort and well-being are always prioritized.

An absolutely wonderful place. My little one is excited to go to daycare, and loves to see his friends. The owner is attentive, and makes sure all the children are taken care of. The entire staff goes out of their way to make our little guy feels special. A truly amazing learning environment for kids!!!
